Essay on Christmas

It’s on the day of Christmas when the man who divided history descended on the Earth. About 2000 years ago, on a winter morning, the angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she had been chosen by God to give birth to a boy who would guide the world to the path of love and forgiveness. Christmas is celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of Jesus.

Christmas is celebrated on December 25 every year. It is a sacred religious holiday for some while for others it’s a commercial festival. It is always a joyous and colourful festival for all.

People exchange gifts, decorate their houses and Christmas trees with bells, colourful lights and ribbons, and many more. Christmas tree decorations are the center of attraction for every house where all the family members come together and showcase their creative side.  At night people take their cars to see the decorations done by others from one street to the other. People visit their friends and relatives and Christmas dinners are organized. Family members staying away for studies or other work commitments don’t miss a chance to unite with their families.

Charity is the hallmark of Christmas. Some common charities that people at this time of the year include food banks, homeless shelters, etc. It’s the big heart and good intention that counts, not the expensive gifts.

People sing Christmas songs popularly known as Christmas Carols. They go to their friend’s and relatives’ homes and old age homes to sing Christmas songs.

Christmas is incomplete without visiting the church. Churches have candlelight services on Christmas Eve, usually late at night. It mainly consists of a short sermon, scripture readings about the birth of Jesus.

It is a fun time for kids. They hang up their actual stockings for Santa to leave gifts and toys for them.

No celebration is complete without special food. It is full of fun, food, family, and friends.

The takeaway of the Christmas festival is love, brotherhood, forgiving and peace.
