On the other hand, students with fewer resources and having less-educated parents are deprived and often lag in their performance in school. This situation is also prevailing in our country where there is a distinct difference in the financial and educational levels of parents.
Having explained the above points in favour of banning homework, it will not be out of place to see some of the advantages of assigning homework. One of the pros of assigning homework is that homework nurtures independent learning and study skills. Firstly, it develops self-confidence in students and imbibes problem-solving skills in them which helps them succeed in their future endeavours. Secondly, homework gives parents the opportunity to get involved which strengthens their bond with the child. Homework also allows the teacher to assess a student’s grasp of the subject matter.
As a conclusive statement, we can say that balance is the key to solving this problem. The student should neither be over-burdened with homework nor should there be a total absence of home assignments. Some homework should be assigned to students to develop regular study habits and imbibe independent thinking. However, for toddlers and small kids, homework is a big no-no, because their minds and body are too delicate to handle such pressure and they must have their own time.
