Subject: Change in the environment leading to destruction in Leh.
Dear Sir,
Through the column of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to bring to light the uncertainty of changing environment which has led to a great loss to life and property of the people of Leh.
Several large stream beds, once abundant, are now ice-free and some even running dry. Over the last few decades, global warming has led to the melting of ice and evaporation leading to flash floods/landslides. because of the rocky landscape, the excess water does not get absorbed in the soil ultimately causing loss of life and economic devastation.
Let us together appeal to the readers of your newspaper to render help wholeheartedly as we have in a way directly or indirectly contributed to the loss. Let us now help rebuild Leh and support the people there.
I would appreciate it if you could take this forward so that maximum people can come forward for help.
Thanking You
Ramesh Jain
