Essay on Onam Festival

Onam is the main festival celebrated in the state of Kerala and it generally comes in the month of August/September. The festivities of Onam continue for 10 days when people clean their houses and decorate them with flowers. Flowers are beautifully arranged on the floor and at the temple in a circular pattern.

Like every festival in India, Onam also marks the preparation of special delicacies, cultural dances, folk songs, snake boat races, martial arts and a lot more.

The festival of Onam throws light on the greatness, generosity and charitable nature of King Mahabali. It is believed that Lord Vishnu granted him a boon according to which every year he can come to visit his people whom he was unconditionally attached to. People of Kerala, along with Lord Vishnu also worship King Mahabali.

Onam is a colourful and soulful festival of Kerala.
