People celebrate Janmashtami at midnight. Because Lord Krishna was born in darkness. Apart from this, people have a special way of celebrating the festival. Since Shri Krishna was fond of eating butter, so people play this game.

The game is this, they tie an earthen pot (matki). The judge of the game ties the matki high above the ground. Also a person fills butter in a vessel. Also what people do is that they make human pyramids to break the pot. Since the matka is very tall, they have to form a tall pyramid. As a result, many people have to participate in sports. Apart from this, there are other parties which prevent them from breaking the pot. There are equal chances for both the teams. Each team gets a chance for a specific time period. If the team is not able to do it on time then the other team tries.

This is an interesting game, many people gather to watch this game. Apart from this, celebrations are also done in homes. People decorate their homes with outside lights. Also, the temples are full of people. They perform various rituals inside the temple. As a result, we hear the sound of bells and chants throughout the day.
