Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasdev in Mathura. Devaki’s brother Kans became overly concerned as his sister’s eighth child was destined to kill him. Kans imprisoned them and when the eighth child was born Vasudev managed to take him to Gokul and exchanged him with Yashoda and Nand’s daughter.
Krishna grew up in Gokul in a cow-herding community. There are many interesting stories of miracles and adventures from that phase of his life. He played the flute so beautifully that all the birds and animals were drawn towards him. He was a butter lover.
Krishna is believed to be the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Krishna has 108 names and 16,108 wives out of which 8 were his primary wives.
Krishna was the charioteer guide of Arjun in the Kurukshetra War. He guided the Pandavas on every step which ultimately led to the defeat of Kauravas. Krishna was cursed by Queen Gandhari who lost her 100 sons in the battle. The grieving mother cursed that the Yadu dynasty will perish in a span of 36 years. This marked the end of Krishna avatar of Lord Vishnu.
