Water is Life Essay
A colorless, odorless and tasteless substance that fills up most of the Earth is none other than water. It is the only compound that is present in all the three states of nature – solid form as ice, liquid form as water and gaseous form as water vapour. Water is everywhere around us from seas, lakes, rivers, oceans to our very own houses. The availability of water everywhere is the only reason why life is possible on earth.
Water occupies 70% of the Earth’s surface. 97% of which is salt water and only 3% is freshwater. We get water from rain. It is the purest form of water.
80-90% of human consumption of freshwater goes to agriculture which is our main source of food. Once the crops and vegetables are grown we need water to cook them as we can’t eat everything in its raw form. Humans and animals require water for drinking, in the absence of which both will die of dehydration. Our body is made up of 70% of the water on an average. This shows how important water is for our survival.
We need water for personal body hygiene – bathing, washing clothes/vessels, and many more regular day-to-day activities.
Water is used to make medicines, clothes construction of buildings and in almost every industry either primarily or secondarily.
We should avoid wastage and polluting water in every possible way and inturn take serious steps to preserve and recycle it.
Global warming leading to climate changes are serious concerns as water in the water bodies are drying up and ultimately water cycle is getting disturbed. Since rainwater is the only source of pure water we should look towards rainwater harvesting, construction of dams, etc.
It won’t be wrong to say that water is the most precious resource on the Earth as there would be no life possible without water.
